As National Racehorse Week draws to a close (15 September), Discover Newmarket, the historic home of British flat racing, reports a marked boost in visitor numbers, thanks in part to the new ITV Series, Champions: Full Gallop – available to stream now.  The TV series explores the high-stakes world of jump racing, going behind the scenes as jockeys, trainers, owners and horses battle to become Champions of Jumps season.  Racing fans and horse lovers alike, inspired by the ITV series, have opted to join one of the Newmarket’s tours that are led by guides from the world of racing who have a lifelong passion for the sport.  Visitors can learn more about the world of horseracing, seeing for themselves, for example, one of Newmarket’s iconic racing yards or the National Stud (£16.50), and visiting the impressive National Horseracing Museum.

Described as pure ‘Hollywood’ in the docu-series is stand-out star, the jockey Harry Cobden, who came to rub shoulders with fellow sport stars Peter Crouch and Darren Gough at the series’ BAFTA premiere in London.

Visitors to the town who wish to make a short break of it can choose from an array of Newmarket accommodation, while those who prefer to delve deeper into the world of horseracing can stay at The Jockey Club Rooms, entering the hallowed turf of the prestigious private members’ club in Newmarket.  The Club’s Chambers rooms are luxurious suites that start at £141 for B&B.
